School Health Immunization Program
ALBERTA HEALTH SERVICES
School Health Immunization Program
Your child may be eligible for vaccines free of charge in school.
Each year, Alberta Health Services Public Health reviews immunization records for students in
grades one, six and nine, to see which immunizations each student needs. A consent form is
then sent home with an information sheet for each vaccine recommended for the grade six and
nine student. No immunizations will be given in school without consent from a parent or legal
guardian.
Consent packages will be arriving home this Fall. They will include information on the types of
immunizations available to your child.

Many diseases have been prevented as a result of immunizations. The diseases that we
immunize for are still common in many parts of the world and some of them still occur regularly
in Canada. Immunization is the best and most effective way to protect children from life-threatening diseases. Think of immunity as your child’s armor against disease.
